The Martintown Road Chapter National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR or DAR) was organized on January 20, 1970. The chapter’s name was chosen because this road has been the most continuously known historical landmark within the environs of North Augusta since 1754.
In the 1730s Martintown Road was an Indian path from Fort Moore to the Saluda ridge used by traders going to the Cherokee Nation. Later, it was a wagon road from Ninety-Six to Augusta. The road was named for the Martin family who lived beside it and served in the revolutionary cause. Martintown Road was widely used by Patriots, Tories, and the British.
Our chapter promotes the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution’s mission of historic preservation, education, and patriotism. Chapter activities and events are centered around these objectives.
We are located in North Augusta, South Carolina, and have luncheon meetings every other month from September through May. To learn more about the Martintown Road Chapter NSDAR, please contact us.
